This is ICAN Juliette's 5th and final litter. These Lab-Golden cross pups are a repeat breeding of ICAN's Musical and College litters, with black Lab ICAN Jammer as the sire. This litter is the J&J litter in honor of Juliette and Jammer - all temporary puppy names start with "J". The plan is for ICAN to take over the rearing of the litter at around 4 weeks of age. Hopefully all these pups will become assistance dogs in training.

3 weeks old
The pups are thriving, active, playful and completely adorable. Most of the pups gained a little of 1 lb this last week. Jaeger had a brief GI upset and didn't eat well for a day, so he fell behind, but quickly recovered. With all the private nursing, JJ had one of the highest weekly weight gains and weighed 3 lbs 14 oz. Other pups ranged from 4 lbs 2.5 oz (Jett) to 4 lbs 10 oz (Jambo).

Snuggle puppies
Pupdate
Lots of changes going on. I love this 2-4 week age when the pups transition from blobs into beings, or as Nancy says, they turn into little dogs. The pup are starting to hear. When they first start to hear, the first indicator is often some different vocalization, i.e., "test barking". I heard my first bark Wed morning, and Nancy saw some of the pups orientate to her voice midday. The pups are making nice progress learning to walk and have no problem traversing the length of the puppy pen. If you sit down in the pen, the pups crawl into your lap and enjoy human attention. With some guidance, we are getting some nice litterbox action. I even saw Jaeger take himself down to the litterbox all by himself. The pups are starting to interact with each other and the toys I have added to the pen. On Tuesday, I offered the pups their first bite of canned food. Everyone except big boy Journey approved, most with gusto. Journey's response was typical response for a well fed big pup - less adventurous trying new food items.

2 week puppy pics
2 weeks old
Two weeks old and we survived yesterday's major snow storm without issue. Most importantly, we still have power and the pups are snug and warm in my bedroom. Pups have upgraded to a small puppy pen. They made the transition especially easily and are practicing their walking. All eyes are open, they had another toenail trim, and their first worming. Juliette and Riley continue to share nursing duties. Weight gains are robust.
